Tradition and design - EL TIÓ PETIT

In our opinion, the Tió is the central element of Catalan Christmas. For a country that can be sometimes too serious, spending days feeding a magical log and then, when the moment arrives, having children and adults alike beat it and chant at it so that it poops out presents is a wonderful display of scatological abandon. Furthermore, the Tió is also a reminder of the fundamental role of the land and forests in Catalonia. That is why, at Debosc, we wanted to create a Tió that celebrates the essence of this ancestral tradition, while playing with wood to get an innovative, modern and minimalist design.

The Tió Petit (i.e. the small log) is made of birch wood with an oak veneer finish, is 15 cm long and has a very friendly face. It also comes with a range of accessories, all made in-house:

  • two removable beech wood legs

  • a barretina (a traditional hat)

  • a blanket-bag, which will allow you to keep the Tió warm during the holidays and to store it afterwards.

  • EL TIÓ has been designed and finished in Anglès (Girona) by the Debosc team, and machined using CNC in Gironella (Barcelona).

    It consists of:

    • 12 9-mm untreated, birch plywood strips, with an oak finish, glued to a piece of cotton.

    • 2 9-mm untreated birch plywood circles, as the face and bottom of the Tió.

    • 2 beech legs with a diameter of 2 cm and a fitted screw, to be screwed into the Tió’s body.

    • 1 37 × 23 cm blanket-bag, made in certified OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 fabric.

    • 1 traditional barretina, 16 x 12 cm.

  • Birch plywood will last you a lifetime, but will take on a more golden color over time. To restore the original color of EL TIÓ, polish the wood with 240 grit sandpaper.

  • EL TIÓ is shipped in a 37 x 23 cm bag, made in certified OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 fabric, which doubles as a blanket.
